I was fortunate to grab a nice seat to see Les Misé rables at IU tonight. Apparently I catch a performance of it once every 24 years , so tonight will have to stick with me for a while.

I’m more worried about my bad back. We’ll see which body part gives out first.

It looks like you are watching the show from London.
I’ve played some medleys from the show, but never seen it. Tonight is a symphony night for me, but I only play on the second half. Right now, it’s Mathis der Maler by Hindemith, a piece I’ve wanted to play all my life, but there are only two trumpet parts, so I’m sitting backstage listening. After intermission, we are doing Pictures at an Exhibition, but not the famous Ravel orchestration. This one is by Slovenian composer and violinist Leo Funtek. Funtek and Ravel worked on their versions at the same time, though neither knew what the other was doing. Funtek’s came out first, but Ravel’s was arguably better, plus he had the name recognition. Still, I like this version. It’s refreshingly different, and the trumpet parts aren’t as hard.
